Today we’re having another Locals Only day, as we do every Sunday. Today all local beer is $3/glass.
When we started this, we intended to just offer the smaller, newer brews at this price. The idea was, if you come in on a Sunday and start drinking Coalition’s stout, you might decide you really like it and the next time will skip the bigger breweries’ beer and instead start ordering it and asking for it at your local pub. This will make the demand for Coalition go up, they’ll be able to sell more beer, and Elan and the brewers over at Coalition will start ordering more supplies, hiring more people, etc. You get the idea.
Coalition is a small, newer brewery located only about 30 blocks from us. They brew great beer. We need to support these smaller, newer breweries and keep them in business.
In the end, we decided that was a little unfair to exclude the big guys like HUB. Because if more people drink HUB, then HUB will do the same thing (order more equipment, hire more people, etc.). So even if HUB doesn’t need to sell the 40 or more pints they may sell that day, it’s still a good thing for southeast Portland.
So come on in for a pint. If you’ve never had Coalition, or any of the other local breweries (Natian, Beetje, Migration, Burnside Brewing (opened last week! we have their first IPA!), etc., give them a try today.
